Step by Step Guide - Setting up your Klar Account

Collection of each step you need to complete to set up your Klar account.

⚠️ Before you start: Make sure you have admin rights to your store and all marketing ad accounts you want to connect. Without them, several steps below will fail.

1️⃣ Connect your store

Your store is the foundation. Connect it first before adding any other data sources.


2️⃣ Connect your marketing data sources

Click Connect Data Source in the Store Configurator section and select the ad account you want to add. Most are one-click integrations.

⚠️ You need admin rights to each marketing account to connect it successfully.

Supported platforms:

  • Meta Business Manager

  • Google Ads

  • TikTok

  • Pinterest

  • Bing / Microsoft Ads

  • Outbrain

  • Taboola

After connecting, ad spend data can take up to 24 hours to appear in your dashboards.


3️⃣ Connect Google Analytics 4

GA4 powers session-based data in Klar. Without it, you won't see landing page performance or session-level breakdowns.


4️⃣ Input your COGS

Klar pulls COGS automatically if they're properly configured in Shopify, Shopware 5/6 or Centra. If not:

  1. Set COGS per SKU via a Google Sheet, or

  2. Use a fallback percentage as a catch-all.

Getting COGS right unlocks Contribution Margin reporting (CM1) — the most valuable view in Klar.


5️⃣ Configure Transaction & Logistics Costs

Accurate CM2 depends on having these configured. Find both under Store Configurator → Costs tab.

  1. Configure your payment/transaction costs (e.g. Shopify Payments, PayPal, Klarna).

  2. Set up regions and the corresponding logistics costs per region.


6️⃣ Set up the Klar Pixel (Attribution)

Setting up attribution takes three steps:

  1. Verify your domain

  2. Implement the Klar tracking script

  3. Update your UTM parameters

Once the pixel is live, read this to understand how to use it:

Attribution data typically appears within a few hours of your first tracked session.


7️⃣ Add Custom & Overhead Costs (optional)

Any cost that doesn't come through a connected data source — office rent, software licences, salaries — goes here.


8️⃣ Track Custom Marketing Costs (optional)

Use this for agency fees, influencer payments, and affiliate costs that aren't tracked through a standard ad platform.

9️⃣ Track Influencer & Affiliate Partnerships (optional)

The Influencer CRM lets you track ROI per creator and compare performance across your entire partnership program — without leaving Klar.​


🔟 Connect Klaviyo (optional)

Connecting Klaviyo brings your email revenue and flow performance into Klar, so you can see it alongside paid channel ROAS in one view.


1️⃣1️⃣ Set Targets

Set revenue, ROAS, or cost targets for a target-vs-actual comparison across your dashboards.


1️⃣2️⃣ Customise your data sources

Fine-tune what data Klar processes:

  • Filter specific stores

  • Configure product information

  • Exclude orders (e.g. B2B, internal test orders)

  • Mark replacement orders so they don't inflate your revenue figures


1️⃣3️⃣ Configure your marketing channels

This is the most powerful — and most involved — step. Done well, your channel view will reflect exactly how your business is structured.

1️⃣4️⃣ Check your setup progress in Klarity

Head to Klarity — Klar's built-in Action Centre — to see how complete your setup is and what still needs attention.

Klarity has three sections:

  • Overview — store health at a glance: Pixel capture rate, channel attribution coverage, and Post-Purchase Survey completion (last 30 days).

  • Issues — a daily scan flagging broken connections, orders missing costs, or Pixel gaps. Mark issues as Complete or Ignored to keep your list clean.

  • Onboarding — a three-stage progress tracker (Getting Started → Super Klarity → Extra Klar) with a progress bar showing how much of Klar you've activated.
