Do you want to start using the attribution report in Klar? Great choice 🎉
Advertorial pages live on a separate domain from your shop. Without the Klar Pixel installed there, Klar can't see the part of the customer journey that happens before visitors reach your shop — and attribution data will be incomplete.
This guide walks you through adding the Klar Pixel to an advertorial page. If you haven't set up the pixel on your main shop yet, do that first.
This should only take a few minutes.
Before you start
You need at least one Klar Pixel datasource already set up for your main shop. If not, see Setting up the Klar Pixel for Shopify or the guide for your shop system.
Create one separate Klar Pixel datasource per advertorial domain.
Step 1: Add the Klar Pixel datasource
In Klar, go to Store Configurator → Data Sources
Click Add Data Source → Add New Data Source
Select Klar Pixel
Enter a name — e.g.
Advertorial Pixel - yourdomain.comChoose your tracking method:
Press Configure
Step 2: Configure DNS (Domain Validated only)
Skip this step if you chose the Basic tracking script — go straight to Step 3.
Enter the domain of your advertorial page (without
https://andwww) and press ContinueKlar generates two DNS records — copy both into your DNS provider using the copy icon next to each field
⚠️ Name field tip: Klar prefills the Name field with your full domain, e.g.
123456789.your-domain.com.Most DNS providers only expect the subdomain part. Remove your domain before saving:
Record | Wrong | Right |
CNAME |
|
|
CNAME IPV4 |
|
|
3. Click Verify Integration in Klar
4. DNS propagation usually takes a few hours — in rare cases up to 2 days. A green check icon appears next to each record once verified.
5. Once both records are verified, a Tracking Script box appears. Copy the script — you'll need it in Step 3.
Not sure how to add DNS records? Contact Klar support via the chat in the bottom right corner.
Step 3: Add the tracking script to your advertorial page
Add the Klar script to your advertorial page so it fires on every page of that domain. The easiest way is via a Tag Management System (e.g. Google Tag Manager):
In your Tag Management System, create a new tag
Paste the Klar script as the tag content
Set the trigger to All Pages
Publish the container
Alternatively, paste the script directly into the <head> of your advertorial page's HTML source.
Note: The tracking script on your advertorial page only needs to fire session and page view events — you do not need to implement cart, checkout, or order events here. Those are handled by the Klar Pixel on your shop.
Rückfrage: ⚠️ Cross-domain session linking [confirm with Klar team]: Because your advertorial page and shop are on different domains, Klar needs a way to connect the two sessions. Without this, Klar sees two separate visitors instead of one customer journey. The CTA links on your advertorial page that send visitors to your shop must include a specific Klar URL parameter so the sessions can be joined. Contact Klar support to confirm the exact parameter and where to place it in your links.
Step 4: Add the data privacy snippet
Add the Klar data privacy snippet to your advertorial page's privacy policy to inform visitors about the tracking pixel.
You can find the snippet (in German and English) in the Klar Pixel datasource, under the tracking script in the collapsed Data Protection Snippet section.
Step 5: Set up Klar URL parameters in your ad accounts
To ensure that conversions and costs can be matched as accurately as possible, you need to implement the pre-defined Klar tracking codes in your ad accounts.
Here are guides on how to do that for each marketing channel:
What happens next?
From now on, Klar tracks visitor sessions on your advertorial page. Data will appear in your Attribution reports from tomorrow — but only from the point in time the script was added. There is no retroactive data.
