Unbundling Products

How unbundling your product bundles works and how to check if it's set up correctly.

Bundles are a great way to drive up AOV. But can be annoying as hell when analyzing your data.

How many hours have you wasted breaking up bundles into individual products to provide the OPS team with a demand forecast or understand user journeys?
โ€‹
With our new ๐—จ๐—ป๐—ฏ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—™๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฒ in Klar, this happens automatically.
โ€‹
Once bundles are configured, you can look at your data in a bundled AND unbundled state.

For all the details, watch this quick video below ๐Ÿ‘‡

Here is how it works:

  1. Create the Bundle datasource in one of your stores and open it.

  2. Add the Variant ID of the bundle in the first column.

  3. Add the Variant IDs of the products that are part of the bundle in the second column and separate them with a comma.

Make sure to use the actual variant IDs instead of the product IDs in Shopify!
โ€‹
We'd recommend using the description column to write down the bundled product and the unique product variants inside that bundle, as the variant IDs are not really identifiable making it harder to understand what you have set up in the future.

For Shopify, you can find the variant in the URL of the product (see screenshot):

That's it. You can now use the dimensions Product Title & Variant (Unbundled) and Product SKU (Unbundled) in the Revenue & Profit Flex Table.

โ€‹
Here are also two advanced aspects that make the Unbundling feature awesome ๐Ÿ˜
โ€‹
1๏ธโƒฃ Revenue Splitting
In the Bundle datasource, you can define if you want to distribute the revenue of the unbundled product equally, based on their price, or set a custom logic.
โ€‹
2๏ธโƒฃ Match Products
You can not only use it to unbundle products but also match the same products onto each other.
Many brands have dirty product catalogues with the same product being in there multiple times which makes analyzing data hard. This fixes it.
โ€‹
With Klar, we work on all the little things that make eCom data messy and build solutions to fix them. Without the need for a full BI team.

Check if your bundles are set up correctlyโ€‹

  1. Go to the Revenue & Profit Flex Table.

  2. Set the first dimension to the "Product & Variant" title

  3. Filter for the name of the bundled product.

  4. Note down the number of gross units sold for later.

  5. Now set the Product Display to "Unbundled". The bundled product should completely disappear.

  6. Afterwards, set the product display back again to "Bundled".

  7. Now filter for one of the unique product variants inside that bundle. Note down the number of gross units sold for that product as well.

  8. Now switch the product display back to "Unbundled".

The number of gross units sold should now match the sum of the gross units sold of the bundle and the unique product variant (keep in mind that it could also be a higher number if the unique product is part of multiple bundles).
