URL Parameters for AWIN

How to add the correct UTM and Klar parameters to your AWIN links so Klar can attribute affiliate orders accurately.

Written by Franz May

⚠️ You can't set these parameters yourself in the AWIN interface. AWIN adds them as a "click append" to all your affiliate links, and only AWIN staff can configure this. Plan a few days for the change to go live.

Parameters

If you are not using any UTM parameters for AWIN currently, or want to optimize your existing setup, we strongly recommend using the following snippet:

&utm_source=awin&utm_medium=affiliate&klar_source=awin&klar_cpid=!!!id!!!

If you have an existing UTM parameter logic in place, you need to append the following snippet at the end of your existing parameters:

&klar_source=awin&klar_cpid=!!!id!!!

What the placeholders mean:

Placeholder

Replaced by AWIN with

!!!id!!!

The numeric ID of the publisher who sent the click

⚠️ Copy the placeholders exactly, including all three exclamation marks on each side. A typo means AWIN passes the text through unchanged and Klar can't match the publisher.

Implementation

Click appends are set up by AWIN, not in your advertiser dashboard:

  1. Contact your AWIN account manager. If you don't have one, use the AWIN support contact form. If your program is still being integrated, contact your AWIN Integration Analyst.

  2. Ask them to add a click append to your program and paste the exact snippet from above into your request.

  3. Once AWIN confirms, click one of your live AWIN links and check that the landing page URL contains klar_source=awin and a numeric klar_cpid.

Best practices

  • Test with a real link. Ask a publisher or AWIN for a test link and confirm the parameters arrive on your shop before you consider the setup done.

  • Check existing UTMs first. If AWIN already appends UTM parameters for you, only add the Klar snippet so you don't end up with duplicate UTMs.

  • Don't forget redirects. If your shop redirects landing pages (e.g. for language or country), make sure the redirect keeps the URL parameters.
